Vice President

Njeri Kontulahti is a passionate community organizer and advocate for financial inclusion. As a founding member of Daughters of Hope Resources Society, she works to support racialized individuals and families at risk of homelessness, striving to end poverty and social exclusion across Surrey, Langley, and the Fraser Valley.

Currently serving as Director of Strategic Initiatives at a community foundation, Njeri has been instrumental in developing financial services for underserved communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized, low-income, refugee, and newcomer groups. With over 25 years of leadership experience at a credit union, she has championed financial inclusion initiatives, facilitated access to credit and home ownership, and provided vital support for refugees.

Beyond her professional work, Njeri is deeply committed to volunteer service. Since 2007, she has helped empower women through the Cooperative Development Foundation’s Women’s Mentorship Program. She also serves as Vice President of Archway Community Services and sits on the board of Kinghaven Peardonville House, a treatment center in Abbotsford.

Njeri holds a BA in Economics from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Management of Cooperatives and Credit Unions from St. Mary’s University. She is humbled to live and work in Surrey, BC, the traditional territories of the QayQayt, Kwantlen, q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie), Semiahmoo, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) and Tsawwassen First Nations, with her husband and two sons and their dog Maddie
